Wine is an old tradition with more than 20 centuries of history in the region. Castilla-La Mancha has the vastest vineyard in the world. There are 650 wineries in the region producing wines for all tastes and prices that are recognized and awarded internationally. There are 29 white varieties and 28 red varieties in the region. Its cultivation, in constant development, has modernized its techniques. Deeply rooted in the lives of its inhabitants, the wine-growing areas have developed a culture of wine that can be appreciated in each of their wineries, and in the villages where they are located.

Geographical Indications

D.O. La Mancha

DO Mancha has autochthonous varieties: Tempranillo and Airén. Wine production and cultivation is one of the most important activities in the area.

D.O. Valdepeñas

DO Valdepeñas is one of the largest wine areas, with high-resistant vineyards and more than 2,500 of sun hours per year, the climate conditions are ideal to produce high quality wines, mainly Macabeo and Tempranillo.

D.O. Manchuela

DO Manchuela is located between the rivers of Júcar and Cabriel. In this particular location are produced top quality wines mainly from the autochthonous varieties: Bobal and Macabeo.

D.O. Almansa

Denomination of Origen Almansa is the most eastern region of Castilla-La Mancha. It´s main varieties are Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell.

D.O. Jumilla

DO Jumilla wineries are located between 400 and 900 meters of altitude. Monastrell is the main variety of the DO. Mountain barriers and more than 3,000 hour of sun per year gives the perfect conditions to produce top quality wines.

D.O. Mentrida

DO Méntrida is located in Sierra de Gredos, with a very high altitude. The main variety is Garnacha.

D.O. Mondejar

DO Móndejar produce wines with a high structure and intense aroma. Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are the main varieties of red wines and Malvar, Macabeo, Savignon Blanc and Torrontés of withe wines.

D.O. Ucles

DO Uclés is the Denomination of Origen with highest altitude in Castilla-La Mancha. The protection of the environment is one of the main signs of identity of the wineries from the DO, which are part of the “Winery For Climate Protection” (WICP).
